Open Gate
The FX5 offers full-frame Open Gate recording*2 — a first*4 in the Cinema Line FX series. With 5K up to 60 fps (FF 3:2), 4K up to 120 fps (FF crop) *5 and more, it gives you the freedom to adjust framing, speed and workflow to realize even the most ambitious vision.
Internal X-OCN compressed RAW
Capture 16-bit scene-linear X-OCN internally*6 *7 *8, eliminating the need for an external RAW data recorder. With LT, C1 and C2 codecs, you can balance image quality, file size and RAW workflow flexibility to suit the production.
Three Base ISO

High-frame-rate capture

The FX5 records up to 5K at 60 fps*5 and 4K at 120 fps*5, giving creators the power to capture fast-paced action with impressive detail and clarity — ideal for everything from cinematic storytelling to sharp sports and documentary footage.
Precise, reliable AF and tracking
With built-in AI processing, the BIONZ XR2 engine accurately recognizes human, animal, and bird eyes (Real-time Eye AF) *1. Fast Hybrid AF uses up to 759 points*13 to ensure accurate focus and tracking that keeps up with quick-moving subjects, even in dark scenes and when shooting with a shallow depth of field.
Built-in de-squeeze for anamorphic shooting
Built-in de-squeeze support makes anamorphic shooting easier on set. With 1.3x, 1.5x, 1.6x, 1.8x and 2.0x settings, the FX5 works smoothly with a wide range of anamorphic lenses.
Deep learning-based illumination estimation
Deep-learning-based illumination estimation achieves unprecedented Auto Tracing White Balance (ATW) accuracy, even in challenging scenes. It delivers accurate color reproduction even under lighting conditions that
previously tended to cause color cast.
S-Cinetoneâ„¢
S-Cinetone brings Sony cinema color science to the FX5, delivering natural skin tones, smooth gradation and a polished look straight out of camera.
Wide-gamut color
With color gamuts exceeding both BT.2020 and DCI-P3, S-Gamut3 and S-Gamut3.Cine retain broad color information for more precise grading and easier color matching with VENICE 2 in multi-camera shoots.
Three S-Log3 modes
From cinematic shoots to run-and-gun, choose Cine EI, Cine EI Quick or Flexible ISO*14 to capture imagery with maximum latitude. You can also import up to 16 user LUTs*15 allowing you to easily monitor the intended look in real-time.
5-axis stabilization
A precision stabilization unit and gyro sensors combine to provide optical 5-axis in-body stabilization. An enhanced stabilization unit expands the roll-direction compensation range by up to 2x, effectively reducing handheld roll shake*16. Dynamic active Mode*17 adds extra electronic support, and embedded stabilization metadata can also be used in post-production*18 for
a more controlled final result.
Lightweight, compact design for agility on set

High-quality 96 kHz/32bit float audio recording
The XLR handle unit*19 supports two XLR/TRS inputs, a 3.5 mm stereo mini jack and up to 96 kHz/32bit float audio recording. With up to four channels of high-quality capture, it also supports independent 32bit float WAV recording alongside video audio for more flexible on-set sound workflows.
BIG6 (HOME) screen for faster on-set control
Inherited from Sony’s high-end CineAlta cameras, the BIG6 (HOME) screen brings six essential settings — frame rate, EI/ISO/Gain, shutter, iris, LUT and white balance — together on one clear home screen for faster operation. Touch control, the multi-function dial, and CineAlta Fixed/Variable frame-rate control help crews work quickly while keeping critical settings visible at a glance.
Optional OLED viewfinder DVF-EL1 for easier outdoor monitoring
Add the optional OLED viewfinder*20 for more immersive monitoring in bright locations. Its 3.5-type panel features approx. 7.07 million dots, DCI-P3 equivalent color gamut, 10-bit display, HDR monitoring support, and 0.90x magnification*39, while the 0°-90° tilting design and selectable display modes help adapt monitoring to different shooting styles.
Monitoring support for precise shooting
Exposure and focus tools, including Waveform Monitor, Histogram, False Color, and Focus Map, support faster judgments on set. They help you manage highlights, shadows, skin tones and critical focus with confidence*21.
Clear Image Zoom for smoother, more intuitive framing
Clear Image Zoom adds a [Smooth Priority] mode*22 that enables seamless zoom from the optical wide end up to 2x digital zoom*23. [Optical Zoom Priority] is a zoom mode that prioritizes image quality. After the optical zoom reaches its telephoto end, Clear Image Zoom takes over. Seamless zooming can also be controlled from the zoom ring on compatible lenses for more intuitive, consistent framing.
Dual CFexpress Type A/SD card slots for flexible media workflows
Dual CFexpress Type A*24 slots support relay, simultaneous, and separate recording while also accepting SDXC (UHS-II/UHS-I) cards. Main and proxy files can be recorded to different slots, giving productions more flexibility in media choice, backup strategy, and file handling.

A high-capacity 2670 mAh NP-SA100*25 battery can provide up to 170 minutes*26 of recording time. An efficient fan cooling system and advanced design deliver up to 3x*40 the airflow, keeping the camera cool even when the LCD monitor is closed. Three fan modes [Auto], [Minimum] and [OFF in REC] let you balance cooling and operational noise to suit the environment and the production.
3.5-type monitor with 4-axis multi-angle design
The 3.5-type 16:9 aspect monitor tilts 98° up, 40° down and 180° sideways, and rotates up to 270° when open*30. A high-brightness panel with 15 brightness settings, fine control of image inversion display, and neatly organized on-screen shooting information all help make monitoring clearer
and more flexible on set.
Movie-first menus and controls
From menu settings to the CineAlta-style multi-function dial, the FX5 is designed around movie production. Frequently used controls are concentrated around the grip and top panel, and the multi-function dial supports both rotational and push operation for faster access to key settings during a shoot.
Clear tally visibility
Configurable front and rear tally lamps make REC/STANDBY status easier to see, and a red frame can also be shown on the monitor during recording. This helps you confirm recording status at a glance, even when a rig or gimbal makes the screen harder to view directly.
Durable, sealed body design
Refinements throughout maximize dust and moisture resistance for high reliability in demanding conditions*31. Sealing is used at exterior joints and around the battery cover to help prevent moisture and dust ingress, and the cooling fan is housed in a separate chamber for added protection.
Flexible mounting points
Five screw holes for accessory mounting are provided around the body, with two more on the bottom for tripod mounting. The result is a body that is easier to rig and expand directly with essential accessories.
Flexible monitoring, power and timecode connections
The HDMI Type A output port supports flexible external monitoring, with the option to display shooting information on both the camera LCD and an external monitor, or separate status information from the image output. Dual USB Type-C® ports support power delivery and timecode input via an optional adapter cable.
Wired and wireless LAN connectivity for remote workflows
High-speed wired LAN and built-in Wi-Fi 802.11ax with 2×2 MIMO on 6 / 5 / 2.4 GHz bands*34 support smoother remote control, file transfer and connected production workflows. Monitor & Control*35 enables wired or wireless monitoring and operation of multiple cameras via a smartphone, tablet, or Mac*36. Precise exposure tools and simultaneous control of settings support more efficient reduced-crew workflows.
Catalyst Prepare and Catalyst Prepare Plugin
Shot review and correction*37. They provide format support, including X-OCN LT/C1/C2, along with key features such as stabilization, lens breathing compensation, color/LUT tools and transcoded export.
Accessibility features for more creators
Screen reader*38 support, a menu magnifier, and other accessibility aids help make the FX5 easier to use for more creators. The lens mount index, multi-function dial, and buttons are designed so they can be easily located by touch, supporting more confident operation.
XLR Handle
Mounted on the FX5’s Multi Interface (MI) Shoe, the XLR Handle Unit allows connection of XLR microphones and enables high-quality audio capture within the Sony ecosystem, with 96 kHz/32bit float recording that handles everything from whispers to sudden loud sounds while reducing the need for gain adjustments and maximizing post-production flexibility.

Ambient textures and subtle vocal nuances are captured at up to a 96 kHz sampling frequency for detailed recording that maximizes the performance of professional microphones. With a Hi-Res Audio-compatible microphone, frequencies beyond 20 kHz can also be captured, expanding post-production flexibility and adding depth and realism to your work.Â
32bit float for flexible post-productionÂ
32bit float recording on the ILME-FX5 provides wide dynamic range and greatly reduces risk of clipping, even if levels are adjusted during editing. This makes post-production workflows more flexible and reduces the need for precise gain adjustments during recording*2.Â
Dual ADCs for wide dynamic rangeÂ
To maximize the performance of high-quality microphones, dual ADCs combining two analogue-digital converters (ADCs) operating at different gain levels are employed to capture a wide dynamic range from subtle to loud input sounds.
